Navicat Essentials for MySQL App Reviews

7 Customer Reviews:

Its something very similar to what MySQL Workbench does but much more user friendly. As you can tell from its title it only covers the essential features. So if youre looking for something more than that you probably need to go with more advanced versions.

It always freezes and don’t responding when I use it with ssh-connection to DB’s. I have to restart it every time after about an hour of downtime. I’ve sent about 10000 system report after every force quit but nothing improved after long time.

I have used the 9.x version of this product for more than a year. It was a very solid product that I recommended to everyone. Last week I upgraded to version 10.0.7 that is supported in the App Store. I wanted to stay on top of updates and send them a little more $$ for a great product. So far, _everything_ Ive tried to do with the new version of the app has resulted in it crashing. I would not trust this product to do my day-to-day work. I guess that the change in parent company/developer was not good for this product. Im just glad I kept the 9.x version around.

For the current price of $4.99 Navicat Essentials is a worthy "upgrade" to MySQL Workbench, which is a horribly buggy piece of software. Navicat is simple, straightforward, and -as opposed to what another commenter mentioned- stable on my Mac OS X Lion. The only feature that I miss is filtering records - this is included in more advanced editions, but this simple feature is something I wouldnt have thought is excluded from the "Essentials" edition...

Great app.. I actually use this every single day. I run all my servers with no GUI by preference. Being that I run a game dev company, GUI allocates way too many unnecessary server resources and Im accustomed to that. This apps ability to plug into MySQL remotely is quite good and is extremely useful. It saves me a good bit of writing, as normally I would write sql from terminal. Having said all that.. theres still some glitchiness to it. Also, the UI could use a lot of cleanup. Id especially like to see some improvements to the UI in terms of insertion queries.. I dont like the insert UI at all..in fact, I do not even use it - I still write insert queries manually, which I find as a major inconvenience. If the improvements happen, this will certainly be an app I recommend to others.

Love this product. One of the best GUI’s I’ve used, and the company seems to really care about their product. It’s just a database GUI but they cared enough to incorporate the OS’s fullscreen feature when it came out, as well as upgrading the whole interface to retina. I didn’t need those things, but it’s classy. As a database GUI it has everything I want. There’s a more expensive version without “Essentials” in the title that confuses me, because this has everything I need as a power user already.
